Sere Kaniye/ Ras al-Ain, Syria On Sunday, Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) declared  their control in the town of Abu Rasein, north-east of Syria.

The Popular Protection Units (YPG) has fully controlled Abu Rasein village (30 km south of Sere Kaniye/Ras al-Ain) for the first time since the start of the Kurdish-Islamists conflict in northern Syria.

Before the Kurdish forces enter Abu Rasein, the town, populated by Arabs and Kurds, was under the control of one of the al-Qaeda linked battalions of al-Nusra Front.

Members of the YPG took a strategic hill as a stronghold overlooking the town where at the entrances and exits they installed barriers, the sources added.

In a linked context, activists confirmed that Clashes continue between Islamists and Kurdish fighters in the city of Sere Kaniye/Ras al-Ain for the second day as reinforcements from the brigade of Jabhat al-Akrad (allied with the Popular Protection Units “YPG”) reached the city.

Sources, preferred to remain anonymous, told ARA News that the Village of Tel Hallaf (in Sere Kaniye’s countryside) saw a heavy shelling of rockets and mortar shells by the Popular Protection Units (YPG) as the village became a stronghold for Islamist militants of both al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham ISIS after being expelled from the city of Sere Kaniye itself.  No casualties were reported after shelling.

In another development, residents of the Kurdish city of Derbassiyeh have buried five victims of the battles in Sere Kaniye to their final resting place in the cemetery of “Martyr Rustam Judy”.  Among the victims were three of the medical staff who were attacked by extremists after their car has been targeted in the village of al-Assadia, al-Magmoria.

On the other hand, in Tel Temir countryside, west of Qamishlo/Qamishli, the first Arab battalion linked to the YPG was established.

Remarkably, the formation of the battalion of martyr “Abdul Hannan Matar” was announced amid a military ceremony and most of its members are from the so-called “Sharabia” clan (branch of Arab clans).
