Explosion hit Hasaka city, north Syria

Amude, Syria− Two casualties among civilians were reported after a bomb hit the Salihiya neighbourhood in the city of Hasaka, northeast Syria on Wednesday. No party declared responsibility for the operation. 

The explosion took place in a private pharmacy located in a residential building in Salihiya neighbourhood. Two civilians were severely injured and transferred to the National Hospital in Hasaka city. 

Local sources said that the explosion mainly targeted the family of Abdulhakim Bashar, secretary of the Kurdish Democratic Party in Syria (KDPS), as his brother was severely injured during the attack. 

The area is since months under the control of the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) −armed wing of the Democratic Union Party (PYD). 

Wednesday’s explosion came a day after an anonymous armed group attacked a real estate office belonging to a resident in the area; killing the owner of the office and injuring two other people who were present at that moment.
