Syria rebels kill 17 Islamist fighters near Aleppo

Urfa, Turkey− Syria rebels of al-Akrad Front and Ahrar Souriya  launched on Monday and Tuesday a military campaign against strongholds of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the city of Jarablus near the Turkish borders.z

At least 17 ISIL fighters were reportedly killed during the clashes in Jarablus, sources reported. The Syria of Jarablus in northern Aleppo is held by al-Qaeda splinter group of the ISIL since nearly six months.z

Alan Jan, a field media activist accompanying Ahrar Souriya fighters, told  ARA News that the brigade fighters backed by al-Akrad Front stormed the city of Jarablus on Monday evening where they controlled parts of the city after violent clashes.  

Jan pointed out that 17 members of ISIL have been killed during the clashes with fighters of the two brigades (al-Akrad and Ahrar Souriya) who arrested and injured several others in the ranks of ISIL.

“The brigades fighters seized weapons, ammunition and cars loaded with Dushka guns as they advanced towards the city center,” Jan reported.

Rebels of al-Akrad Front and Ahrar Souriya have also taken over the building of waterworks near Zor Maghar area in Jarablus.

Meanwhile, local sources in Jarablus told ARA News that a huge explosion hit the city on Tuesday. No casualties reported. 

Over the last town months, the Syrian rebels and opposition fighters of the FSA continuously attacked strongholds of the al-Qaeda splinter ISIL in northen Syria, mainly in the countryside of Aleppo. Dozens of ISIL fighters have surrendered and handed over their weapons to the FSA forces.
