Damascus, Syria– The besieged districts of Homs city saw on Monday continuous clashes between fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and other Islamic divisions on one side, and regime forces and allied militias on the other.
Omar Suleiman, a local activist based in Homs city, told ARA News that the Syrian regime forces tried to storm into districts in the old city of Homs which led to engagement in clashes with FSA fighters.
“The regime forces targeted the besieged districts in the old city with heavy artillery and mortar shells, while the regime air force targeted several areas causing huge damages in residential buildings,” Suleiman said.
Suleiman also pointed out that several regime soldiers died at a regime checkpoint in Homs city by a defector who fired on the soldiers after his defection was revealed to them.
In a similar context, FSA fighters positioned in the besieged districts of Homs city targeted the regime-held districts of al-Nizha, Akrama and al-Zahra with grad rockets which resulted in a number of casualties.
