Kobane, Syria – The Assembly of Engineers of Kobane in the predominantly Kurdish city of Kobane in the northern countryside of Aleppo organized a seminar on Thursday about “Information Security”, given by specialists Musa Bassrawi and Mustafa Shahin.

The event started with an introduction to the different Information Systems, Computer Programming and the importance of using computers in the life of humans. The seminar presenters also explained how to create personal websites in a proper and protected manner and pointed out to the problems which the information networks users encounter, especially hacking problems.

A detailed explanation about the common types of computer viruses, the protection methods and goals of creating such viruses by the big companies and the internet security providers was also given.

Engineer Bakir Baki, an executive member in the Assembly of Engineers of Kobane, told ARA News: “We founded the assembly at the beginning of 2014 after a vacuum in political institutions of the state presented itself in Kobane city. We would like to serve the people of our city with our professional capabilities and also would like to lay the foundation for an engineers’ syndicate in Kobane.”

“Since our foundation, we conducted a lot of activities in the branches of agriculture and animal farming; we have carried out many field tours in farms and fields and worked to teach farmers how they can provide themselves with livelihoods without having to depend on others for help,” Baki further said.

Baki also referred to the problem of water shortages, saying: “The region of Kobane suffers from an acute water shortage due to cutting the water supply on Kobane by militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and which led to the spread of many diseases because of the unprecedented breeding of insects.”

Baki concluded by calling “on all the parties which represent the Syrian people and the parties which represent the region of Kobane to help to provide insecticides in order to preserve the public health and to reduce the implications of this disaster”.
