Deir ez-Zor, Syria – Clashes broke out on Sunday between members of al-Qaeda splinter group of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and rebel fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the central city of Deir ez-Zor.
Fayez Abdul Aziz, civil activist based in Deir ez-Zor city, told ARA News that clashes erupted after the ISIL group took control over al-Buseira town in the eastern countryside of the city.
“12 ISIL militants were killed during the clashes on Sunday,” Abdul Aziz reported.
Meanwhile, local sources reported that ISIL militants withdrew from their bases in the gas field in Koniko area near Deir ez-Zor city to support ISIL group in the front lines in the vicinity of al-Buseira town.
