Deir ez-Zor, Syria – Al-Qaeda offshoot group of the Islamic State released a statement on Friday, calling on all the Syrian opposition fighters in Deir ez-Zor province and its countryside to hand their weapons over and announce ‘repentance’ to the group. The Islamic State gave one week time to the opposition battalions, otherwise it will launch intensive operations against their strongholds, according to the statement.

The Islamic State (previously known as ISIL) emphasized that all those who would not respond will be considered anti-ISIL “sleeper cells”, and will be fought with all possible means.

“Anyone who wants to repent should provide a picture of his identity, in addition to photographs to the Islamic Court in al-Mayadeen city (near Deir ez-Zor), to get a repent paper which will be formally recorded in the Islamic Court as documentation prevent ISIL members to expose to them,” the statement read.

In another context, the ISIL prevented displaced people of al-Shaheel town from returning home, despite an agreement between the ISIL and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) on allowing civilians to return home after escaping the clashes areas.

Speaking to ARA News, local activists in Deir ez-Zor said that more than 400 displaced families from Shaheel town are suffering difficult humanitarian conditions, with lack of water and food.
