Unity of Syrian revolutionary forces required to defeat Assad: rebel leader

Damascus, Syria – Zahran Aloush, head of the military council of the Islamic Front rebel group, called on all the warring factions against the Syrian regime to form “a new independent revolutionary general staff to build a political cover which stems from inside Syria and serious enough to unite the combatant factions in the country”.

According to Aloush, the Syrian opposition “failed in playing the role of a genuine political representative of the Syrian revolution”.

“We must put all disputes aside and unify our efforts by organizing an independent decision-making center based inside the Syria to guarantee defeating the pro-Assad militants and regain the country to its people,” he said in a statement published online on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, thirteen civilians were hardly injured on Tuesday, after the fall of several mortar shells on Zablatani area in Damascus city, south of Syria. The source of the shells remained unknown.

Ahmad Sabbagh, civil rights activist based in the city of Damascus, stated to ARA News that “ten mortar shells” launched from unknown source landed near al-Hal market in Zablatani district in central Damascus, injuring thirteen civilians, who were transferred to the National Hospital in the area.

On the other hand, the pro-regime warplanes targeted Jobar neighbourhood east of Damascus with rockets, amid continuing clashes on the outskirts of the neighbourhood between the pro-regime military forces on the one hand, and fighters from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) on the other.
