Qamishli, Syria – The Kurdish community in Oxford in the United Kingdom took to the streets on Sunday to condemn the crimes committed by the Islamic State (IS), an Al-Qaeda offshoot, against the Kurdish majority areas of Syria and Iraq, including the Yezidi area of Shingal.

Dozens joined the rally to show solidarity with Yezidi Kurds and other minorities attacked by militants of IS. Protesters also chanted slogans supporting the Peshmerga forces –which undergo continuous battles against IS group in northern Iraq.

“We gathered today to glorify the role of the Kurdish Peshmerga army in protecting minorities in Iraq against terrorists,” said one of the participants.

Holding pictures of the victims of Shingal area, where IS militants killed hundreds of Yezidis, the protesters denounced the mass killings against Yezidis.

“Under the banner of Islam, dozens of innocents are being mercilessly slaughtered every day,” one of the protesters told ARA News. “IS is a serious threat to the region and the world.”

“Thanks U.S., thanks EU” one of the slogans read, in reference to the military and humanitarian support provided by west to Iraqi Kurds.

Speaking to ARA News from Oxford, Kurdish lawyer and activist Saad Suleiman said that the Kurdish community in the different European countries should organize peaceful demonstrations to put more pressure on the international community to continue supporting the Peshmerga and other Kurdish forces in Iraq and Syria in order to continue fighting IS radicals.

“The Kurdish forces are fighting IS not only to protect the region, but the entire world from terrorists of the Islamic State (IS). If the power of this group continues growing, its danger will sooner or later reach Europe and the U.S.,” Suleiman told ARA News
