Deir ez-Zor, Syria – Coinciding with artillery and air shelling on the cities and villages of Deir ez-Zor province -east of Syria- as well as the military operations amid the imposed siege on the region, some armed groups affiliated with Jabhat al-Nusra and other Syria rebels started their operations.

The operations took place in collaboration with the region’s residents against al-Qaeda splinter group 0f the Islamic State (IS) –previously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant ‘ISIL’– in Swidan Jazeera in Deir ez-Zor’s eastern environs.

The armed groups put IS bases into fire and raised the flags of Jabht al-Nusra following intensive clashes with the IS members.

In a relevant context, IS threatened the region’s people of destroying their sacred shrines accusing them of worshipping stones and images.

People in IS-held areas told ARA News: “IS allowed the ‘allegiance media people’ to enter its areas and cover battles and incidents in Deir ez-Zor.”

Oil smuggling to Iraq and organs trade

Speaking to ARA News, some activists including Faraj al-Jbori, who lost seven family members during the regime and IS operations against civilians in Deir ez-Zor, reported: “We saw and heard that big vehicles were daily transferring oil from the villages to the Iraqi-Syrian borders.”

Al-Jbori mentioned the rumors they heard every now and then about the regime’s penetration to IS where members of the army and security branches accompanied the ambulances to the Iraqi-Syrian borders.

“Some ambulances change their track and head to the military airport of Deir ez-Zor city,” Al- Jbori added.

Al-Jbori pointed out that they were able to get information about the regime’s coordination with external sides such as Iran and Iraq “to sell them human organs of arrested or injured people detained by the regime or its militias”.

“Such practices are not weird for a brutal regime with no human values that destroyed a whole country and killed and expelled hundreds of thousands,” Al-Jbori said.

Ongoing military operations

In a different context, local activists from the city of Deir ez-Zor informed ARA News that the regime’s aircrafts carried out a number of raids on al-Myadin, al-Omar oil field and Bir Zohdi in Deir ez-Zor’s eastern environs on Sunday.

“Raids also reached al-Husaynia, al-Attal, al-Sehil and al-Shaitat in Deir ez-Zor, leading to dozens of casualties among civilians,” a local activist reported.

On Saturday, aircrafts shelling targeted al-Bsera Mountain and the surrounding villages with no casualties.

Moreover, the regime’s forces used mortars and rocket launchers to shell the neighbourhoods of al-Hawiqa, al-Jbila, al-Ordi and al-Takaya square from their headquarters located on the outskirts of al-Jora region.
