Hawler, Iraqi Kurdistan – In unannounced preparations for military operation, Syrian regime’s cargo aircrafts have been lately providing Deir ez-Zor military airport, in northeastern Syria, with heavy weapons and approximately 1500 soldiers.
“These sudden procedures come following the Islamic State’s (IS/ISIS) movement to new strongholds and hiding weapons,” activist Husam al-Owinan from Deir ez-Zor told ARA News.
Al-Owinan mentioned that a week ago regime troops in Deir ez-Zor received rockets of Volcano type and started using them to bombard IS-held neighbourhoods.
In other developments, the Lebanese party of Hezbollah assumes responsibility for the bombardment of the Political Branch Bridge, linking the city of Deir ez-Zor with each of Hasakah, Mayadin and al-Bukamal (northeastern Syria), with 2.5 tons of explosives.
According to the Iranian channel of Al-Alam, “In mid September 2014, after 25 days monitoring to IS checkpoints, Hezbollah’s elite brigade started the operation in which two officers bombarded a major bridge in the area.”
Al-Owinan pointed out that “it was a dubious operation”, as members on both sides of the bridge were from Jund al-Aziz battalion (linked to IS) where no clashes took place.
“I wonder how they (in reference to Jund al-Aziz fighters) did not notice any vehicle with such an amount of explosives, how it was moved down the bridge, how Hezbollah members crossed?” Al-Owinan said.
Islamic State members did not assume responsibility for the operation. They acknowledged in a statement their ignorance of the bombardment details.
