YPG: ‘We will defeat ISIS’

Kobane, Syria – The Media Center of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) released a statement concerning the course of the fighting taking place between the YPG fighters and extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS/IS) in Kobane area, northern Syria.

“The resistance of our units of the YPG and the great people in Kobane, agains the IS mercenaries who brought forces and arms from the areas of Iraq, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Manbij, and Tel Abyad (Gire Spi)  in order to fight our forces in Kobane, has entered its 24th day.” the YPG MC said. “We will defeat those terrorists in Kobane.”

According to the statement, IS militants are attacking the city of Kobane from three sides; “The western, eastern and southern neighborhoods of the city area are being shelled by the terrorists of the Islamic State, followed by fierce clashes.”

According to the YPG’s leadership, several IS fighters were killed on Friday as clashes continue in the vicinity of Kobane.

“Our forces (YPG) bombed a military vehicle carrying dozens of IS militants while trying to enter the city from the western side. At least 26 terrorists were killed in the operation,” the Media Center reported.

Meanwhile, local sources reported that thirteen IS militants were killed during clashes with Kurdish fighters near Mount Mishtanoor in the countryside of Kobane on Friday.

“IS extremists carried out 7 consecutive attacks against the YPG’s headquarters in western Kobane, but didn’t succeed in breaking into the area,” a YPG-linked source told ARA News. “Dead bodies of eleven IS militants were found at the western entrance of the city.”

On the other hand, the YPG Media Center reported that 9 Kurdish fighters were killed during clashes in Kobane on Friday.
