Duhok, Iraqi Kurdistan – Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State’s radical group (IS/ISIL) reportedly injured when an airstrike by the U.S.-led international coalition hit IS headquarters in the Iraqi city of al-Qaim, local sources reported Saturday.
In an official statement, the United States’ Central Command confirmed that their fighters jets targeted leaders of the extremists grouping northwestern Iraq.
The Central Command didn’t confirm the death of al-Baghdadi.
“This strike demonstrates the pressure we continue to place on the ISIL terrorist network and the group’s increasingly limited freedom to maneuver, communicate and command,” the Central Command said.
According to Reuters, witnesses confirmed that an airstrike hit a house where senior ISIL officers were holding a meeting near al-Qaim city.
