Kobane: Intensive military operations against ISIL

Istanbul, Turkey – Fourteen U.S.-led strikes targeted headquarters of the Islamic State’s (IS/ISIL) militants in Syria and Iraq on Monday, the U.S. Central Command reported. 

On Monday, five strikes hit locations of IS in northern Syria, while nine others hit the radical group in Iraq. 

In Syria, the air strikes hit combat sites and buildings used by the IS militants, as well as a group of fighters near the city of Kobane on the Turkish border, and another strike targeted an IS location near Deir ez-Zor city, according to an official source. 

At least 20 IS militants were killed in the U.S.-led international coalition’s airstrikes in Kobane, Manbij and al-Mayadeen areas on Sunday, local sources told ARA News

“Four IS militants were killed in clashes with the Kurdish forces in Kobane on Monday morning; on the same sources reported. 

On the other hand, two Kurdish fighters were reported killed.

In the meantime, the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) emphasized the role of the Peshmerga forces in backing them against IS extremists in Kobane.  

The YPG’s leadership released a statement, of which ARA News received a copy, saying: “The Peshmerga forces which joined the resistance of Kobane participated in joint operations with our units, targeting terrorists stationed near Kobane with heavy artillery.
