Hasakah, Syria – Friday evening the U.S.-led international coalition’s warplanes bombed several areas in the southern countryside of the city of al-Hasakah, in northeastern Syria.

Speaking to ARA news in Hasakah, civil rights activist Dilovan Mohammed reported that the coalition’s warplanes bombed IS sites in the areas of Sabaa Skor, and al-Melabiya, and the vicinity of Mount Abdulaziz, west and south of Hasakah.

This coincided with clashes between the pro-regime forces and militants of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) in several locations in Hasakah’s suburbs, locals reported.

“On Friday evening, sporadic clashes erupted between militias of the regime’s military forces (backed by gunmen of the National Defense) and the IS militants, following the latter’s attempt to advance into the city from the eastern and southern sides,” Mohammad told ARA News.

“These developments came following heavy losses in the IS’ ranks.”

Political activist Ismail Ali stated to ARA News that several infiltration attempts took place by the radical group of IS in the city of al-Hasakah, “especially after the  IS group brought in large reinforcements from the Iraqi border and the province of Deir ez-Zor”.

This came amid reports of possible imminent attacks by IS radicals at the eastern and western entrances of the city.

Ali also said that the regime’s forces re-installed several checkpoints inside the city for emergency cases amid an alert in the ranks of the regime forces and their allied Arab tribal gunmen.

Over the past few days, the southern and western countryside of al-Hasakah saw artillery shelling by IS militants, while the international coalition continued its raids against the group’s strongholds in the area.
