Syrian rebels advance against ISIS in eastern Kobane

Suruc, Turkey – On Saturday, the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) targeted gatherings of displaced people in the village of Tel Shaeer (2 km west of Kobane) on the border with Turkey. Activists reported that at least two civilians were killed and six other were injured. 

Speaking to ARA News in Kobane, civil rights activist Barzan Khalil reported that the IS radical group targeted with mortars a number of displaced people crowded on the Syrian-Turkish border, killing two civilians, including a woman, and wounding six others, who were transferred to a field hospital in the city of Kobane.

In the meantime, the anti-IS rebels of Burkan al-Furat Operations Chamber announced on Saturday that they regained control of three districts in the southern and eastern side of the city of Kobane after clashes with militants of the Islamic State group. 

The Media Center of Burkan al-Furat group reported that they carried out an operation on the IS-held sites last night at several points of Kanya Kurda district east of the city, including al-Baladiya Street and the Azadi Square, regaining control of major districts there. 

“The Kaniya Kurda attacks claimed lives of 12 militants of the radical group,” al-Furat rebels said.

The Al-Furat Operations Chamber, which includes Kurdish forces and rebels of the Free Syrian Army, also said that the battles have continued since yesterday evening until the early morning hours in the southern front of Kobane.

“A car carrying members of the IS group on the road to Aleppo was destroyed as well,” al-Furat media center reported. 

Burkan al-Furat also seized arms and ammunitions during the operation on Saturday.
