Urfa, Turkey – On Tuesday, local sources reported the defending forces of the embattled city of Kobane in northern Syria seized six buildings in the vicinity of the municipal building in the eastern part of the city, amid continuing clashes in the southeastern and western suburbs against militants of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS).

Military sources in Kobane told ARA News that the clashes intensified in the southeastern countryside of the city.

“The Kurdish forces regained control of several buildings in the vicinity of the municipal building in the eastern side of the city, where hit-and-run clashes took place in the last few days,”local sources reported.

Speaking to ARA News in Kobane, Zinar Gabani, a fighter of the People’s Protection Units (YPG), reported that 15 militants of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) were killed during these battles.

“Our fighters (YPG) were able to seize a large amount of weapons and ammunition, including rocket-propelled grenades, light weapons, snipers and heavy machine guns,” Gabani said, adding that the clashes continued until the late hours on Tuesday.

On the western side of the city, the Kurdish forces stationed in Tel Shaeer point (4 km west of the city) and the radical group of IS based in Tel al-Izaa (7 km west of the city), exchanged shelling Tuesday.

Meanwhile on Monday, a special group of the YPG carried out a qualitative anti-ISIS operation in the village of Jalabiya south of the city of Kobane, killing five IS militants and seizing weapons.

Omid Khoshman, a member of the YPG, stated to ARA News that the operation implemented by the YPG commando group resulted in the destruction of a IS manned car packed with ammunitions and Dushka machine guns.

Khoshman pointed out that one of the dead IS militants was identified as Abdul Razzaq Abu Khaled from the village of Buaas in the northern countryside of Raqqa.
