43 ISIS militants killed in Kobane clashes

Suruc, Turkey – A Kurdish woman was reported killed in the embattled city of Kobane in northern Syria, after a mortar shell hit her house west of the city, Kurdish military sources reported on Sunday.

Speaking to ARA News on the phone, a fighter in the People’s Protection Units (YPG), Khalid Minas, said that Moleda Ali Naasan, 45, lost her life after a mortar shell launched by the Islamic State’s (IS/ISIS) militants hit her house in western Kobane.

Minas pointed out that three other civilians were injured during the shelling and were transferred to Kobane’s field hospital for treatment.

In other developments, in a statement issued on Monday, the Media Center of the YPG confirmed the death of at least 43 IS militants, while seven YPG fighters lost their lives in the past 24 hours.

Clashes took place in the neighborhoods of Martyr Moro, Martyr Farhad and Kanya Kurdan in Kobane.

“The bodies of 18 out of 43terrorists were at the hands of our units. Those were killed in clashes on Monday evening–12 hours long clashes,” the YPG’s MC added, pointing out to the loss of seven YPG fighters during similar clashes on Monday morning. 

Noteworthy, the defending forces of Kobane were able to regain control of new points in the city during the past two days, including the school of al-Wihda, southeast of the city –which was taken as a stronghold by the IS militants.
