Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan – On Saturday, the Kurdish military forces of the Peshmerga regained control of a crude oil station near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk after clashes with militants of the Islamic State (IS/ISIL).
The facility was taken by IS extremists, before Peshmerga forces launched a military operation and regained the station near Kirkuk.
The Peshmerga forces started combing the station for explosives on Saturday evening, military sources of the Peshmerga said in a statement.
In the meantime, Iraqi Major General Hussein Mansour, who sent reinforcements from Khanaqin to the Peshmerga near Kirkuk, was reportedly killed.
Mansour was kelled by an IS sniper during the fighting on Saturday.
