Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) stormed a number of houses in the sub-district of Zab (95 km west of Kirkuk), on Sunday, and abducted 24 residents, including officials of the local council of the area, and Iraqi security personnel.

Speaking to ARA News, eyewitnesses from Kirkuk said that the abductees were executed on the road linking the city of Mosul with Baiji (45 km south of Mosul) in northern Iraq.

The sources added that the radical group accused the victims of having suspicious links with the Iraqi security forces and with joining the ranks of the Shiite militia of the Popular Mobilization Force.

The southwestern areas of the province of Kirkuk have been held by the Islamic State since mid-June 2014, while battles continue between the group and Iraqi forces who try to regain those areas.
