Urfa, Turkey – The eastern front of Kobane countryside witnessed fresh fierce clashes with heavy weapons between militants of the Islamic State (IS/ISIL) and the joint forces (the People’s Protection Units “YPG” and Burkan al-Furat rebels), military sources reported on Saturday.

The clashes resulted in the death of at least 25 IS militants, while a Kurdish fighter was reported dead in the recent clashes.

Abu Ali Osman, leader of the Burkan al-Furat rebels, told ARA News that IS terrorists launched a night attack with armored vehicles and heavy weapons on the village of Korek and its surroundings in the eastern countryside of Kobane.

“The clashes lasted until this morning, during which the joint forces were able to deter the offensive, killing and injuring dozens of radicals,” he added.

Osman stressed that at least 25 terrorists were killed and more than 15 others were injured, while one fighter of the joint forces lost his life.

Other field sources told ARA News that Sirrin silos, south of Kobane, have become an IS military base from which the group launches operations on the Kurdish villages in the area of Rodko (near highway between Hasakah and Aleppo), pointing out that the Sirrin silos has become a source of concern and a threat for people in the southern villages of Kobane.

“The people of the villages Qal Hadid, Zarik and Noor Ali were exposed to frequent attacks by IS terrorists from their base in the silos,” he said.

The radical group was able to control several villages in the countryside of Kobane after the departure of the Peshmerga forces from the city to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
