Geneva – Police forces in Moldova arrested at least seven people suspected of having links with the radical group of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS).

According to a statement by Moldova’s police, the suspects were planning to travel to Syria in order to joint the IS extremists.

The IS-linked suspects were arrested on Tuesday by the police forces. The detainees were also planning to take their women and children to Syrian areas under IS control.

“The male suspects planned to travel with the women and children as cover for the journey to Syria,” Moldovan Deputy Police Chief, Gheorghe Cavaliuc, said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to Cavaliuc, the suspects include Chechen and Tajik nationals. A North Caucasian man was allegedly carrying a forged passport.
