Damascus, Syria – At least eight members of the pro-regime security forces were reportedly killed on Friday during clashes with rebel fighters of the al-Rahman Corps battalion in the eastern Ghouta in the countryside of Damascus, southern Syria.

Speaking to ARA News, civil rights activist Ahmed Sabbagh, from the city of Damascus, said that fierce clashes broke out between the two parties in the orchards located between the towns of Maliha and Jisrain, during which eight members of the pro-Assad forces were killed, while no casualties were reported in the ranks of the rebels.

Also on Friday, the pro-Assad warplanes carried out several raids on the city of Harasta and the town of Zamalka town in the Damascus suburbs, coinciding with a similar attack on the outskirts of the southern highway near the neighborhoods of Jobar and Zamalka, without reporting injuries.

In Daraa, civil rights activist Haitham Nassar told ARA News that the rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) targeted the regime-held security branch in the city of Daraa with rockets, causing the explosion of munitions depots.

ARA News could not verify the number of casualties caused by the attack.

“The bombing also targeted the regime’s headquarters of the security, military and political branches of the Air Force Intelligence and two checkpoints near the social insurances and post office buildings,” the source added.

Additionally, the regime’s artillery battalion (No.285) in the Panorama sub-district of Daraa was also bombarded. A number of pro-regime security members were killed while dozens others were reportedly injured.

This coincided with an aerial bombardment by the regime on the city of Hirak in the Daraa countryside, without causing casualties. Also, similar shellings were launched on the towns of Sheikh Miskin, Inkhil, Sour, Kafr Shams, Busra al-Harir and the Daraa al-Balad neighborhood. The death tolls couldn’t be verified.
