Damascus, Syria – Syria’s two main political opposition groups announced an agreement on a “roadmap” to end the long-running civil war, opposition officials said on Friday.
Leading members of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) and the National Coordination Body talked to reporters following a meeting in Brussels, saying the agreement includes establishing a transitional governing body and forming a unified front to stop bloodshed in Syria.
Safwan Akkash, a Syria opposition official said it was the groups’ shared responsibility to protect “Syrian blood”.
The unprecedented agreement between the rival opposition factions is also aimed at founding a representative delegation for any future talks with officials form Assad regime on a possible transitional phase in Syria.
