Urfa, Turkey – Heavy clashes took place Friday between Turkish army forces and fighters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the southern city of Silopi in Şırnak province.

“Different kinds of weapons were used in the clashes, including heavy artillery, armored vehicles and missiles amid the intervention of air forces,” a Kurdish source told ARA News in Silopi.

This comes amid continuous Turkish strikes on PKK camps in northern Iraq.

The PKK-linked armed group of YDG-H holds few positions in the city of Silopi, which is located on the Turkish borders with Syria and Iraq.

“Our fighters targeted the Turkish armored vehicles when they started to destroy our centers in Silopi, which led to fierce clashes amid intervention of the Turkish air force,” a PKK fighter told ARA News on the condition of anonymity.

The Turkish state agency DHA reported the removal of several sand barriers that have been installed by PKK fighters in the city of Silopi, adding that the clashes caused the death of three Turkish police forces and the injury of sever others.
