ALEPPO – Syrian regime forces, backed by a Russian air cover, reported new gains in the southern suburbs of Aleppo, retaking several key locations from the armed opposition factions, military sources reported on Wednesday.

This coincided with dozens of air raids on several villages and towns in Aleppo’s southern areas, causing the death of a number of civilians.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, opposition rebel fighter Mustafa Suleiman said that pro-regime forces seized control of the villages of al-Sufeira and al-Huweiz after fierce clashes with al-Mujahideen Army and al-Nusra Front.

“After intense air raids on their strongholds, the rebel groups withdrew to the neighboring farms in the area,” he added, pointing out that the regime’s warplanes conducted two airstrikes on the town of al-Zirba in southern Aleppo, and another on the town of Kafr Halab.

“Four civilians have been killed while dozens others have been injured,” Suleiman told ARA News.

Also, the town of Khan Toman was targeted with rockets by the regime’s forces from their headquarters stationed in Mount Azzan, led to the injury of a number of civilians some of them are in critical conditions.

Subsequently, Syrian rebels received additional reinforcements in the southern countryside of Aleppo to stop Assad’s army and ally troops. Pro-regime forces aim at securing its supply lines and isolating south of Aleppo from its west.
