DAMASCUS – France launched Sunday its biggest raids on positions of the Islamic State (ISIS) extremist group in Syria, officials said.

This comes just two days after the group carried out terror attacks in Paris, killing more than 130 French citizens.

The French defense ministry said in a statement that 10 fighter jets launched simultaneous airstrikes on key positions of the radical group in Raqqa, which is deemed the ISIS de facto capital in Syria.

The airstrikes, which took place in the evening on Sunday, hit ISIS locations with some 20 bombs.

“The raids, including 10 fighter jets, were launched simultaneously from the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. Twenty bombs were dropped,” the French defense ministry said in the statement.

The French operation led to the bombardment of a recruitment center for jihadists, an ISIS command center, a weapons storage center and a training camp in Raqqa.
