ALEPPO – Russian fighter jets targeted on Monday evening the eastern countryside of Aleppo with several airstrikes, causing a number of civilian casualties, activists reported.

The airstrikes hit the cities of Manbij and al-Bab in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo, where militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) have established headquarters and military fortifications.

“Russian warplanes bombed the Novoteh market and the neighborhoods of al-Manshiyah and Ashrah in the city of al-Bab, causing the death of seven civilians and the injury of ten others,” local media activist Muhannad al-Jassim told ARA News on the phone.

In Manbij, the Russian fighter jets hit the city center with four rockets, causing a large damage in the shops and surrounding buildings. It was not immediately clear how many people lost their lives in the strikes of Manbij.

This coincided with artillery shelling by the Syrian regime’s troops on ISIS-held villages in the vicinity of the Kweiris military airport in Aleppo countryside.

Local sources reported the death of at least three ISIS militants in the bombardment.
