DERIK – U.S. fighter jets targeted a convoy for the Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Syria’s eastern province of Deir ez-Zor with an airstrike, local media sources reported on Saturday.

The airstrike bombed an ISIS convoy in Deir ez-Zor suburb and killed eight leading members of the group.

“The convoy consisted of four cars and 11 militants. Only three members were able to survive the airstrike with some injuries, while the other eight members were found dead,” media activist Fouad Jumaa told ARA News in Deir ez-Zor.

The American warplanes are believed to have received signals from some secret agents working on the ground regarding the ISIS convoy and its location.

“The group is looking for the agents who have been leaking security information about the militant’s movements to the western coalition,” Jumaa said, citing an ISIS official.

Among those killed in the U.S.-led strike was Muhammad Matar, a military commander in the ranks of ISIS and the one responsible for carrying out massacres against al-Sheitaat tribe in Deir ez-Zor –where more than 700 people were killed for refusing the ISIS’s alleged Caliphate.
